The game puts together survival and exploration elements. Beyond Good & Evil is partially the inspiration to the scanner and the camera function of the PDA. Due to the developer-centric update policies on Steam, that version receives updates the earliest. Also released on Nintendo Switch along with its sequel Subnautica Below Zero in a double pack. A version for the PlayStation 4 was looked into for after V1.0 and was released December 6, 2018.
